Vocals :

Inspirations :
Sublime,
Gorillaz, Jack Johnson and everlast.
Music
:
That’s a
cool simple G based song. No problem here, we are in California baby :
Sun, surf, girls, beach, party… you hang out with your friends under the
sun! I wanted to stay really positive.
This song
is for me the most commercial and radio able song.
Instruments :
- Guitar :
my black Yamaha for the acoustic parts and a 60’s American fender
Stratocaster for the electric ones. Verses and chorus : G and A; Bridge
: sliding on C, G, A, D.
I took 3
parts from 3 different songs to mix it into one song :
1) verses
from an old ‘si seulement’ French song that I did in 2004
2) a bridge
3) the
chorus ‘come down to Newport beach with me’ that gave the whole spirit
of this song.
Jim did a
really great job on the electric guitar parts : it s not a saturation
but he turned all the volumes at the maximum to have this dirty sound.
- Drums :
We sampled jim’s drums to imitate an Everlast rhythm.
- Bass :
Chris knows.
- Vocals :
I mixed different styles that you can recognize along the song : Pop,
Hip Hop, jazz and hard rock.
K-lien is
the rapper, mainly singing on his own part. This is his myspace, this
guy is fucking good and did a great job. I didn’t want to fall into a
typical rap/rock song like gorillaz or the commercial rapped remix
commercial hit where you got 2 rappers staying on their own part.
That’s the
reason why you can hear K-lien from the beginning to the end of the
song, it s more like a duo. I however didn’t sing on his part because he
just didn’t need me to do so.
- Sound
effects : I really had fun putting such a lot of different noises
matching the lyrics : a dive in the ocean, motorcycle, kiss… and my
girlfriend Tania on the phone at the end of the song. It’s in French and
this part sounds really good to American people.
-
Lyrics : That’s an
easy going song, pas de prise de tete. I wrote the bridge and the
chorus, Skye wrote the verses.
I had the
first guitar riff about 4 years ago.
